there's this kid, to protect his identity his name is "j". J is friends with this kid named "r", I'm also friends with r. J thinks he is a "hacker" because of this youtube channel called project zorgo. he says he gets info for this group thus making him a hacker. I asked him if he even knows what Wireshark is. of course, he said no and then called me a nerd for a whole month. he also steals jokes from people. one day he found out I like an arg website. j knows r hates args and so he went to the site and bookmarked it and told r that is was me. r stopped hanging out with me, I had no friends and that threw me into a depressed state. I didn't know at the time what he did I thought r just didn't like me which now gives me really bad trust issues. I can't even really trust my therapist now. a couple of days ago r made up a story about me throwing rocks at him. j said I was crazy for doing that.

I really want to make this fucker suffer how should I go about doing that.

Culture is recursing and fragmenting like some fractal.

You see the recursion pretty clearly with memes. A meme is a reference to previous instances of the same meme. 90% of the enjoyment of a meme is just the feeling of "I get that reference." Sure, you get a chuckle the first time, but the power comes from the fact that it gets stronger with repetition rather than weaker like most jokes.

The fragmentation may be more serious. Instead of conversations we have isolated posts and tweets. Memes are fragments of culture rather than complete stories. Attention spans are getting too short for the comfortable reading of books. Social groups are becoming disconnected, everyone in their own little echo bubble.

I don't know where this process ends but it seems to be accelerating. Perhaps we each isolate ourselves into our own unique world. Or maybe the loops become zero size and we get a moment of cultural introspection.

> Now whats considered an innovative story is taking the same soykaf we've seen a thousand times before and putting a slightly different spin on it, viola! what innovation! Enjoy seeing the same soykaf over and over forever.

You're free to ignore it. Meanwhile there is a golden age of independent media happening. Creative people with ideas who 20 years ago would have been relegated to community theatre or a local writer's circle can now crowdfund their projects and make interesting films. If you ive in a big city or somewhere with a lot of students, you should benefit from a small cinema that will show some of them. If not, like me for instance, you can get them online.

There is no reason to give a soykaf about the latest Marvel film if it doesn't interest you. The entertainment press has usually ignored quality art since it had existed anyway.

Everything is boring, I can't get myself to to anything. I used to spend my countless hours on my computer and now I can't sit on that chair for more than 2 hours without feeling bored, tired and not feeling like doing anything. I don't know, maybe I'm bored of my current life style as a neet. I want to be better, to achieve things and have a balanced life with different activities and hobbies but it's hard to get because I'm broke and my parents are poor as dirt. I'm afraid of the outside world, afraid of people and Society. I know some o you will tell me to "man up" and "just go out bro" but I'd have already done it if it was that simple and easy. I can't help but think about how miserable my life has become and it feels like I'm losing tiny pieces of my soul day after day. I totally can't enjoy anything anymore, no matter how many times I fap, play vidya, watch anime.. You name it, none of these make me feel better although they used to be my main methods of escapism. I want to get into instruments but I'm too poor to afford any but it's fine because I don't deserve my life and I don't want it.

Hey so I have this sort of theory or take on the relationship between hunger, boredom and loneliness.

I'm not gonna focus on what hunger is, but I get strong vibes of "change" and "void" from it. It seems to be intrinsic to living things, it allows the thing to remain active and in control, in contrast to things that do not eat and are thus just animated by external forces. Think of food, fuel, electricity, sunlight. Think of how humans seek out their food and managed to create objects that cannot seek out their own food - thus we retain the control over them, by denying or providing their food/fuel.
More complex, higher level lifeforms seem to have increasingly complex forms of hunger. While simple cellular things or light bulbs just nom stuff reflexively, mammals or hybrid powred cars have various behaviors to control when and how much food they eat which adapts to the situation. Both your dog and your car will communicate to you with increasing effort that they are hungry and they need that food - though the dog will likely seek it out itself while the car is forced to collapse predictably.
While food does have to have certain composition, its intake is still quantity-based. You eat five apples, okay. You get hungry again, you can eat five more. You can keep doing this for a pretty damn long time too. So this is where boredom starts to stick out.

While eating apples will keep chasing your hunger away based on quantity of consumption, boredom isn't digesting the material of the apple - it is digesting the pattern, type, idea, the quality of the apple. Once boredom has digested "apple", you are fucked - you can keep eating apples all you want, the pattern hunger that is boredom will not leave you. What may have been hundreds of apples to your hunger is just one meal to your boredom. The meal is digested, eating the same thing is still that meal that is already gone. You need a meal of a different quality, a different pattern. So you start eating oranges. Or you make apple pie. Or you just stop eating altogether and this new pattern of "I'm hungry as fuck" will satiate your boredom - not to mention the third pattern of "end of starvation" once you start eating apples again.

But as time goes on, boredom will eventually digest the "apples - starvation - end of starvation" pattern as well, and now you're even more royally fucked than before.
So that is it, boredom gnawing at any and all things that happen in your life, mPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

This is pure pseudoscience nonsense. The body doesn't just blindly take hormone precursors and manufacture them into hormones willy-nilly as you eat them with no regard for any kind of balance or control. Your body has systems for hormone regulation.

Thinking you can just ingest precursor chemicals (once again, not human estrogen but precursors) and your body will become feminine makes about as much sense as thinking drinking a lot of milk will make you cum more because it looks kind of similar. Or thinking that it will make you grow extra teeth like a shark because it has calcium. No, obviously not.

I miss forum boards.

There are places like Reddit and imageboards of course but good old forums like the ones made in phpBB or Invision or whatever are the best for me.

I grew up with them and it's just not the same. I like how everything is categorized into topics and subforums and it just makes it easy to make or find a subject you want to talk about. Then there's that unique sense of community that it's really hard to find on a subreddit for example.

They're being more and more trumped by social soykaf, Reddit, and lately Discord servers, so they're not as widespread as they used to be in the past.

Does Alice still uses them in current year ? Not necessarily tech-related, just post whatever you're subscribed into.

 No.2845

Forums are bothersome with signing up for accounts. Even when I think to post on phpfreaks or everydaysewing or vinyl engine forums, I always sigh with the thought of even attempting to post. Imageboards are nice in a sense that you don't need any account, you can just submit your thoughts instantly sans barrier of entry.

 No.2889

Reddit has a really fast and easy sign up whoch is its first attraction as a forum. But the main thing with reddit is that with the aggregate style of posting its a lot like a chan where threads die over time. Mix this in with voting and suddenly you have what is essentially a chan style forum but where users self moderate.

Its really good for small communities but the raw democracy ends up fucking things up even without the unabated homosexuality that is the average redditor

I have several ideas for some cool browser extensions/addons that could make a radical difference in how people interact on the web, so much so that I'm ready to dedicate the rest of my life to realize this one idea, I think it could create a new Internet golden age.

at this point, I have only knowledge of HTML/CSS and recently started learning python.
Ultimately what I want to make is a fork of Firefox with all the extensions I've imagined built-in. some of which would make some pretty fundamental changes to the basics of the browser itself.

Can I get a road map of what to learn to so that I can make this? like what programming languages? but also anything else that might be useful.

I imagine that if I where to publish my ideas that almost immediacy there'd be people who would develop it. but I want to make sure that it will be open source and also released with all the features fully ready at the same time at launch, otherwise id fear of simply having ideas ripped off and poorly implemented in other browsers, or worse yet in an incomplete form, even tho each idea fairly different, they all come together to create the full experience. if the browser can be released in its full form from the beginning though, I believe it would have the greatest chance of wide adoption.

for the above reasons, I want to start out by making it alone and only after the visions fairly concrete invite others on board to help build it.

so again what should I learn? Thank you Alice.

Krita is a pretty competent piece of software these days. GIMP is not and never will be. The device support on GNU/Linux is pretty lacking, and audio is a total mess if you're trying to produce music. But it's not at all impossible. If you want to do it on GNU/Linux, I'd use Ubuntu or Fedora because they have the best support in general. I don't agree with you on the last point. The purpose of GIMP isn't the same as Kritas, Krita is great for digital drawing, GIMP I agree isn't. But in other regards I think is a competent piece of software. It is true it doesn't cover every aspect of digital art software like Photoshop does for example (eg. drawing) but that doesn't make it incompetent to my eyes.

ПPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

This is good. I would add a terminal multiplexer to that list. Tmux. Add any $EDITOR of your choosing. Vim is my go to but Emacs is fine as well. Knowing older editors comes in handy. Know the basic of ed/red/ex/ee.

Learning how processes work/communicate in C is a good idea. Plenty of learning resources on Github. It's first year CS stuff.

Know the basic of systemd. Getting an Arch install up and running is surely to teach you the basic. Write a systemd .service file. It gets a lot of hate but it is valuable software.

>Some people are extremely good at reading body language,
It's funny to compare the skills that I and my siblings were taught as kids, compared to the skills my friends' parents taught them. My friends would get really good at things like woodworking, or fishing, or playing the guitar, or cooking, or fixing cars - skills their parents had, and were eager to share with their kids.

My parents (now retired) were both cops.

There were basically three skillsets that they taught to their kids: nonverbal/nonphysical intimidation, reading other people, and preventing other people from reading oneself. Imagine the end result of the evolutionary process of a house of two sharp cop parents and three sharp kids, refining all those skills over 20+ years under the same roof.

It's a lot of fun being able to turn otherwise calm and controlled people into nervous gibbering wrecks who telegraph their every thought, just by looking calmly at them. (It helps that we all have eyes that are the same as Cillian Murphy's.) It's like a having a real-life superpower.

High school, university, what have you.

These last two years have been quite a development for me, and I've done a lot of growing up. When I try to describe how I've changed, I realize that outwardly, nothing much has happened in my life since I've graduated high school, but on the inside I've changed more than I could possibly express.

When did you go through the most change in your life as a person, and are you still experiencing that epoch in your life right now?

This is my first post on this chan site so I apologize if it reeks of newfag
I'm currently 19 year old freshman in community college but I have also have been stalking a group of peers from high school for what could be 3 or 4 years and its embarrassing to admit of all the time I wasted on it, most of them also actually living on their own, having a job, going to uni and finding love, all things I can't relate and I get more depressed than I was before but I can't seem to stop for very long. This obsessive behaviour I had with people I don't know well has happened since I was a child through attraction and when I first started to notice this group of peers I had a crush on only one person and being the shy dumbass I was instead of being friendly and introducing myself I had acted cold and aloof cause I get a wave of anxiety every time they are around. Stalking them in the internet was the solution for me to get my fix of seeing their face and seeing their life and little by little all their friends would add up to that list. While nobopdy had confronted me, I am pretty sure they all know since I exposed myself using sock puppet accounts to follow them and getting blocked by one person. I'm at this point where I am not crushing anymore and its became a habit, something to obsess on when I am not wallowing into nislism, sadness and bitterness. There is no point of this anymore and I don't want to do this anymore since I already wasted my teen years, I don't want to lose my twenties as well. Its taken a toll on my thoughts as well as that whole group is constantly on my mind when we were never acquaintances let alone friends. I tried before to go on brakes to stop stalking and I have did it for a couple of moths but only to relapse again. It's funny other people lives are taking a toll on me like they are heroin personified. If you guys have any advice to stop the need to online stalk and thinking of people who want nothing to do with you, it would be greatly appreciated.

Treat it like the addiction it is, now that you're aware

You can either use the hard approach and stop living through others and force yourself to find meaning or take it easy, safe in the knowledge nobody gives a lot of thought to others who aren't in the circle of close friends and family so what is the point if they already forgot about you

I'm 25 and I stalk people online, too. I have no real life friends. I've come to the conclusion that if you want to stop you will need a good social circle of friends to interact with. This will divert your attention towards them and you can have some good fun with them too. That's what I like to believe. I haven't tried it out yet because at my age most people already have their established social circles and getting into one is very hard in my experience.

Good luck to you. I know how you feel.

Would arisuchan add a Japanese laungauge board? I feel like by simply laying out the doormat for the japanese crowd we might might attract more quality users, Japan's one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, the originator of the chan, In general highly creative and innovative, and where much cyberpunk culture comes from, also sel.

So please add a Japanese laungauge board.

It's an established fact that the botnet wants us to starve, and with even pizza being non-free it's hard for a cyberpunk to sustain his/herself in the meatspace. You can't survive on stims alone, and traditional food is just a waste of time.

So how do cyberpunks get their calories?

> Buying food for multiple people is cheaper.
What are you buying?
Fresh vegetables usually cost per pound, so it doesn't matter how much you get.
Most other things (grains, legumes, frozen food, spices, etc.) last a long time and so you can buy in bulk.
What else do you eat? i can only think of meat and bread as exceptions right now.

>>2578
Just buy the bulk items.
It might be annoying in the short term, but then you save on trips later.
You can get a cart like pic related to make it easy.
Also, if you have some food at home already, you can afford to wait on buying an item until it goes on sale.

Yeah I really hate these easy answers. It's not that simple. I don't buy packaged or canned food unless I have to. You have to understand that things are different n other countries or even parts of the same country. I've lived with 12 people, six people, and alone. It gets harder and more expensive the less people there are and your diet becomes less diverse.

>You can get a cart like pic related to make it easy.

Yeah sounds great for when there's six inches of snow, not to mention the hills around here.

> if you have some food at home already

Not always, no… I have in fact gone hungry several times in the past few years without enough money to even buy a loaf of bread. I make all my own meals from scratch and never eat out with very rare exception. (Next question before you ask: no I don't pay for internet).

Soylent is ridiculous. So expensive. And not even slightly innovative. We've had meal replacement shakes available for decades, like ensure or slimfast. Those are just the most common ones you can get at walgreens or whatever—there's much more developed bougie versions out there. But soylent is the most bougie. It's a luxury bay area meme version of a diet shake.

Maybe you've had a long day or something has been making you lose more sleep than usual or you can't stop thinking of something small that made a difference in your life. We're all here to listen or at least notice what you have to say. Sometimes confessions are just about sharing how you feel in a really direct way.

Even though it might make you feel vulnerable I think you can do it if you try.

I also want to leave this small town life that I struggle to deal with every single day. It's not for me and nothing here ever will be. But I'm afraid to get "out there" to make a true difference or tolerate working for my exit plan for that new start I crave so badly. Seems like I'm just going to be living over and over repeating myself into further despair until I eventually "crack".

Assuming you know to get a cpu with integrated graphics, then my answer is yes I think it's a fantastic idea. Personally, I don't have much experience pertaining to your question, but have seen the opinions already expressed in this thread echoed around the net quite a few times, in different capacities / pertaining to different subjects.

There seems to be this concept of compartmentalizing different areas of your life into work home social whatever whatever, and I often see people speak of seeing increased efficiency or focus. Someone in some thread somewhere said something about the separation between work and play to be crucial. Again, no personal experience in the area.

please tell me if this is the right order to become a gnu/Linux system admin.

 No.2859

There isnt a correct order.

Assuming your goal is to get a job as a sysadmin, my advice is this: look at jobs near where you want to work, and see if you cant find openings that look appealing to you, and see what these ask for or suggest is a plus. Maybe its Linux+, maybe its RHCSA. But whatever it is, maybe its better to try getting that first.

In the meantime, you dont need a cert to start applying places. If you have knowledge and experience, try to make it clear. Throw together a github or a blog to show your projects, and start sending resumes out. You might get lucky.

I had 3 serious girlfriends in my life, and even tough some stories happened years ago they still keep me up at night. I never had issues socializing, i'm a higly functional person in this society, and i have more serious problems like probably becoming unemployed in the near future or the world slowly turning into a distopia, so how can such stupid things like average romantic human relationships be so destructive and override all the rest?
Anyway, my question is, will they fade away with time or, even with years passing i'll still remember every fight and every breakup, and every relationship more will mean more pain and more soykaf to remember and to fuel my insomnia?
The problem is that when you're happy you don't think about it so it sticks less to your memory, while instead bad things usually make quite strong memories

Everybody is different, it sounds like you have a good memory. It's a blessing and a curse.
This is just anecdote, but…
I had a girlfriend once with an extremely good memory, but she was also constantly traumatised by things which happened to her several years previously.
I am the opposite, very forgetful, when bad things happen to me I look forward to the future because I know the memory will disappear into the past. But… I forget a lot of things that I want to remember as well,.

 No.3108

I know you can't stop remembering the memories. They can be traumatic - it's OK to talk about it. Cherish the good ones.. never mind the bad. If the memories are intrusive and devastating to your functioning you can have drugs / neurosurgery to make that thought disorder disappear (really works - not recommended)
Want to know the best part? The horrible ones will repress themselves for a time - it's a survival mechanism. So your worst ones.. you can't even remember!
Anyone care to share memories they repressed and uncovered with detective work?

Well.. back then I lived in a 400/wk motel. She NEVER came over.. still never does.
I was on the bus line and dad asked me to come over - so I did. Took 2 hours and a 2 mile walk.. maybe a little less. I was on zoloft and it gives me intense brain fog. I distinctly remember that.. horrible feeling and I felt it that very day. I opened the door.. down the stairs.. through the doorway.. and there it was.
Now.. about this little lady.. radiant young thing.. blonde, petite, tan. Now, I'd cried hysterically for hours over her before.. at 18 because she rejected me in cruel fashion in the corridor at school. Now 21..
She was on top of him going down on him. She didn't stop.. they didn't.. anger.. they switched positions.. I began to cry again. They took all the knives so I wouldn't cut (they still do this) and she exclaimed "It's just sex!" She was all sweaty and wet.
She left one joint later. Lovers quarrel. Didn't last long, those two. I think I got an in tears pity handjob. Dropped acid that night..
Then 2 weeks later I was upset over it and I did a cut on my left arm. I was told I nearly bled out.. nowadays neither of us hear from her.

Also, privacy != anonymity. The difference is subtle but important when discussing these topics.

But if I have to spell out why VPNGate and similar "free" VPN services are no good, think about how the VPN provider has complete access to all of your browsing history (IP addresses, unencrypted webpage views, etc.). Would you rather put your browsing history into the hands of some shmuck who slapped OpenVPN onto a VPS somewhere or some other shmuck who makes it his business to do it correctly and attempt to minimize any log collection?

 No.2293

>>2291
I know what differences between Tor and generic VPN protocols are, between Tor infrastructure and infrastructure of your average "we do not keep logs" VPN provider. Linking decade old articles won't help newbies to understand the topic though. In fact it doesn't matter which Tor node knows what if three of them happen to be in France and France happens to have country-wide data logging and retention law, comprende, innit?
>>2292
None of those. I'd put it in hands of 3 shmucks who did apt-get install tor on their VPS and forgot about it. VPN should not be neither a service, nor it should be provided by third party rather than your company, your friend or yourself. However, VPNGate is comprised of volunteers from different countries, mostly Asian, but instead they use a SoftEther server. Similar to Tor node admins. It is not anonymous to the degree as Tor is, nor secure is. Therefore most people use it as circumvention tool, as most VPNs in fact are, just read their TOS closely. In fact I am 100% sure none of them will be interested in selling my hentai or chan preferences to advertisers, contrary to big so-called VPN """providers""" (what a stupid name, americans always come up with dumb terms tbh) who have access to thousands of user's data simultaneously. VPNGate is also a nice way of hiding your Tor exits from some half-assed websites that decided to block Tor connections for some reason.
>unencrypted webpage views
That's mostly old obscure pages from web 1.0 era, I am completely fine with it. Everything that has a login page today has https, but if a public page has https, it won't save you from snooping. You know, there is this thing called "Website fingerprinting attack" When you visit a website, even over VPN, SSH tunnel, or https every page has unique download patterns. The technique is pretty accurate around 90%, an adversary can detect what pages on "encrypted" site you visit. So, in order to at least hide what websites you visit from your ISP even when using VPN, you'll need a custom VPS with obfuscated shadowsocks rather than plain OpenVPN on someone else's computer.

 No.4218

Has anyone ever run their own OpenVPN server instance on a dedicated server before. I've considered doing this and running my own VPN service. Is there anything security wise wrong with doing this? Is there a reason why I never see anyone mentioning doing this?

 No.4235

Well if your server is under your name then you're easier to find. If you're sharing servers with thousands of other people through a service you're less identifiable.
I'm not an expert, that's just my understanding of it.
You can certainly run your own VPN server, I do, because I'm not doing anything malicious or illegal. I just mainly use it when connecting to unfamiliar wifi.

Software groups such as cat -v and suckless, often seen as too elitist have great ideas and stances with some warrant that I can get behind. The use of minimal software, portability, and security are ideas I try to apply when I can and hope it catching on.

>Cat -v

The notorious site amoung programmers. Known for calling many of the popular standards, languages, platforms, software to be harmful. And what they consider good might seem unreasonable to expect usage.

>Suckless

https://suckless.org/philosophy/
simple, minimal and usable. We believe this should become the mainstream philosophy in the IT sector. Unfortunately, the tendency for complex, error-prone and slow software seems to be prevalent in the present-day software industry.

Designing simple and elegant software is far more difficult than letting ad-hoc or over-ambitious features obscure the code over time. However one has to pay this price to achieve reliability and maintainability.

Many (open source) hackers are proud if they achieve large amounts of code, because they believe the more lines of code they’ve written, the more progress they have made. The more progress they have made, the more skilled they are. This is simply a delusion.

Most hackers actually don’t care much about code quality. Thus, if they get something working which seems to solve a problem, they stick with it. If this kind of software development is applied to the same source code throughout its entire life-cycle, we’re left with large amounts of code, a totally screwed code structure, and a flawed system design. This is because of a lack of conceptual clarity and integrity in the development process.

Code complexity is the mother of bloated, hard to use, and totally inconsistent software. With complex code, problems are solved in suboptimal ways, valuable resources are endlessly tied up, performance slows to a halt, and vulnerabilities become a commonplace. The only solution is to scrap the entire project and rewrite it from scratch.

I have a confession to make. I use discord. I have for months, it's a really bad habit.

I use it to keep up / chat with old internet friends I met on anime forums and sites. I don't want to lose them just yet, they're almost the only friends I have, and the only people I talk to on a daily basis.

But I want to get more into irc. In the coming months I am finally going to say goodbye to discord, because I just can't have that soykaf on my computer any longer. Does anyone know some /comfy/ irc rooms? Any topic is fine, just looking for a community I can join when I give discord the axe.

Tell me about the open source hardware projects you guys find interesting, think they have potential or have contributed to.
I'll start : Some time ago I heard about the Zet CPU, it was an attempt to make a clone of the x86 but they haven updated since 2013, it's sad that happend

I like the HiFive1: https://www.sifive.com/products/hifive1/

It's a development board featuring the Freedom E310, an open RISC-V microcontroller. They try to be as open as possible, but it's still not 100% since that is just not possible today. The way China is talked about in western media downplays their power. Chinese control/police systems are incredibly subtle and sophisticated, you're exactly right with saying the days of tanks in the streets are past. Remember those ink-cannons the police were shooting recently? Remember all the headlines this past year about Chinese recognition tech? The West is still stuck in the cold war era, themselves, and how they look at China.

P.S.:
It is easy to overestimating the role of the West in these protests.
Most of the protesters don't wave American flags, and not everyone agrees with those who do.
They are just trying to exert pressure on their government however they can.

The West™ is subtly trying to push the same surveillance state on its citizens that China alrady is, perhaps that's why that aspect is seldom mentioned.

 No.4233

China's surveillance state is way less effective than America's. Somehow, Five Eyes have figured out how to not only watch everyone's every move, but also to make radicals so incredibly ignorant and brainwashed that they don't even understand why or how they should stay safe.

As we all know, everything we do on the internet is collected by various organizations and used to create detailed profiles on individuals and their interests, fetishes, beliefs, etc. Let's imagine a hypothetical scenario where all these detailed profiles on people leak - how would the world change? How many governments would fall apart as officials are exposed? How many people would be forced to hide in obscurity as they're found to hold beliefs or do things that society does not approve of? Would society learn to forgive past digital transgressions?
Sorry if this thread is better suited for another board.

 No.4232

It would probably be less hard hitting if they all leaked. People would just not care as much "well I have this on me but look, literally all the people in the country do as well!" It would be a lot more constructive and powerful if someone held onto that kind of blackmail and leaked it out surgically a bit at a time. If an official is just one in a large crowd it will hurt them less to be exposed.

Exactly what the title says. Feel free to elaborate on what they might signify as well. I view weird beliefs/delusions similarly to dreams. They are affected by current stress levels, past experiences, and various other things, so we can see into our subconscious and deeper selves by examining what we believe in. Some of these analyses may be a bit reaching, but as long as I can gain some insight into who I am, what does it matter? I'll start.

> In middle school, I believed that all my friends hated me and wanted me dead, and the only way to win them back was to befriend one of the popular girls in my friend group. (aka cliche teenage drama)

I had only one true friend in elementary school, and we did not go to the same school. Middle school was the time when I had finally obtained some friends. Perhaps I still felt walled off from others but never noticed until the anxiety surrounding my social life forced me to act out.

> I don't exist

> I am a figment of someone else's imagination
> The world is a simulation
> other forms of solipsism/reverse-solipsism
Not sure where this came from, but maybe the belief that everyone hated me actually lead to me thinking I was actually gone. Or perhaps the feeling of isolation from the above belief had me alienated from everyone else.

> Some mirrors are "safe mirrors," and some are "unsafe mirrors." For example, the mirror in my room is "safe" and I can look into it safely. However, the mirrors in public bathrooms are "unsafe"; if I look into one, there is a chance something will come out of my reflection's eyes and kill me.

Could be an extension of the nonexistence belief. If my mind tells me that I do not exist, then simply the act of doubting my existence proves that I exist. I have to make these paradoxical realities "fit," and so my subconscious concludes that, while I exist at the moment, I should not exist. Somewhere along the line, my subconscious decides that my existence is self-destructive. (This is because I do not believe that everyone else is out to get me. Exactly why I went down that route, I don't know.) Mirrors represent some kind of identity or self-awareness, so my reflection is out to kill me. Exactly where the "safe" Post too long. cough I'm going to post this in spite of the pessimistic little voice in my head telling me "Why bother" manly just to help myself formalize my thoughts, BTW Besides the fallowing being a list of things i dislike - - - to - - - -despise I'm not sure what else they have in common, IF YOU can tell what it is, that maybe there's a root to all these problems, then please let me know.

alright, things about online communities (any not just imageboards) I'm not a fan of:
1 # being unhelpful, discouraging, or answering a completely different question when replying to someones question. Like if you don't know the answer, or think the question is based on a faulty premise, or don't like how the answer might be applied, just, SHUT, UP,. you don't need to say anything. This problem is everywhere, and it is completely antithetical to productive discussion.

2 # being cynical, snide, D o o m e r, ""realistic"" isn't cool, its called being a loser, and trying to spread around your pathetic give-up-on-live-itude to others is just another symptom of your utter worthlessness.

3 # (an inability for some to be able to explore new ideas and/or cultures.) and/or (an inability for some to be able to create new ideas and/or cultures.) basically the inability to conceptualize and implement original thought, whether independently or with others. and this ties into my next point!

4 # X would work if every body got on board with the plan, everybody agrees X is a good idea, nobody does X because everybody believes that nobody else will do X, just like they believe, and in the ultimate feedback loop from hell a great idea that everyone thought was a good solution is never done, spiting in the face of collective logic.

5 # ~ NoT YoUr pErSoNeL ArMy ~ and similar attitudes. how about instead, a new methodology, i scratch your back, and you scratch mine. help each other out, Always, if you have the expertise to contribute, and at least sometimes when you your self have to learn something new to provide help.

6 # Cringe this, cringe that, HOW ABOUT !!!BARF!!! because this attitude makes me so sick to my stomach I come close to puking. "oh yeah I'm so much cooler than others, cringe oh yeah let that sweet sweet dopamine flow, I think i just moved a couple points up the social hierarchy"

Well that's whats coming to mind at a moment, I'll update thiPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

NYPA is a specific response given to people who show up expecting to recruit a bunch of 1337s to back them up as they raid someone else's website or otherwise infringe upon innocent lives. Personal army requests have zero to do with helping others; they are made by people too lazy to fight a fair fight.

in its proper usage that's true, but it gets thrown around in inappropriate contexts too. While I'm not going to help Alice dox someone, I'll happily enlist in a personal army for the purpose of say: liking & subscribing to someones YT channel to give it a boost, or participating in a prank on another site, or hopping in and trying out new software that's only just been released, or joining a dead community that only just cropped up. A big part of our strength is in our numbers.

>1 # being unhelpful, discouraging, or answering a completely different question

This is because people find it fun. Like they honestly find it fun to give people nonsensical or funny advice. I think it is just dumb people who come home from work or other stressors and want to have a little fun. No big deal. Much worse in anonymous places obviously.

>2 # being cynical, snide, D o o m e r, ""realistic"" isn't cool, its called being a loser,

Very true but you shouldn't dismiss it so easily. There are a lot of times I'm sure I came off that way to someone online who was about to put vast amounts of effort into a completely worthless project they won't finish. At the same time I give enormous amounts of time and effort into helping people work on projects that are objectively worth it. YOU have to judge if a person is telling you something is unrealistic or dumb because they are a loser who wants to put others down or because they are an expert that knows something is dumb from experience. Both happen with equal frequency, you be the judge.

>3 # (an inability for some to be able to explore new ideas and/or cultures.)

This is just everyone. Reflected equally IRL and in online communities.

>4 # X would work if every body got on board with the plan,

It wasnt actually that great of an idea or they would have done it. They would have gotten on board. Often people have a really hard time distinguishing stupid ideas from good ideas. This is a good metric for if an idea is stupid or not, if nobody does it or participates it was not a good idea to begin with. Even if it was a good idea, it was not a good idea in the context of THOSE people who were talking about it.

>5 # ~ NoT YoUr pErSoNeL ArMy ~ and similar attitudes.

Most people with a real life don't have time. That is all it comes down to. No mystery here.

>6 # Cringe this, cringe that, HOW ABOUT !!!BARF!!!

Cringe is cringe, and with time cringe things will be loved. It isn't a bad thing. Disco clothes and 80s neon looked cringe to most normal people during the time period. Cringe is often something different and bold that stands out from what is conventional. It is thPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I'm not sure who this first person plural refers to. If there is a "we" there must also be someone who is not we and I wonder who both are.

I also reject the implication earlier that being realistic is just an attempt to dump on people. Maybe if you set goals that have more than a snowball's chance, total strangers online who owe you nothing might be more inclined to risk wasting their time with you.
