 No.2867

On September 16, 2019, Richard M. Stallman, founder and president of the Free Software Foundation, resigned as president and from its board of directors.

What does this mean for the transsexual community ?

 No.2869

God fucking damn it.
This is the start of the Fall of Free Software.

Isn't that great news! One less clown to make free software something you keep a distance from just to avoid being associated. The great hobo has fallen, and maybe all the ideology - human rights - lefts - libre - thinkpad - anime trash will follow. If things truly go well, by 2025 free software will again be what it was in 70s - Ken Thompson quietly shipping out UNIX tapes and disks with a note signed "Love, Ken".

I thought I was going to see him die still leading fsf. This is the most important moment we'll see in free software for years.

rms has been holding free software back for years. I like him too but not a great people person.

I smell an MIT license. Wouldn't mind a more BSD world, in philosophy.

Stallman was known for being uncompromising in his advocacy of free software, people would make fun of his computer set-up but it was completely free. Even if you disagree with his stance and think that you cannot currently function as part of society using exclusively free software, he served as a useful reference point. I'm afraid that this will change now and the FSF will "soften up" and start compromising to please imbeciles who think Free Software is not welcoming enough if it demands the complete refusal of proprietary software. Hopefully it won't end up like the president of the Linux Foundation who declared that "2017 is officially the year of the Linux desktop" while using MacOS…

Why???? whats going on???

He was an obstacle for normal people adopting free software, hopefully someone that doesn't like making up scenarios where being a pedo and raping is acceptable can step in

the spark that lit this up seems to be certain comments RMS had in relation to J. Epstein, sex trafficking, and pedophilia.

Say what you will about RMS but he has a way with words, and this shows through his extreme pedantry and weird stubbornness of opinion.

Such things dont go over well, apparently, with certain sectors of modern censors.

The powers that be threw the Twitter mob on him. Check out the CSAIL mailing list for more.

>where being a pedo and raping is acceptable can step in
I see you've read the Medium posts. Please, read what RMS has wrote himself (including what he later disavowed) and use your judgement to decide if he is indeed a pedo or a rapist or just a silly, aging man past his prime.

>Say what you will about RMS but he has a way with words, and this shows through his extreme pedantry and weird stubbornness of opinion.
It's true.

RMS is a freethinker. By definition he exists outside our mainstream thought and morality. I do agree with the claim that sexual assualt is a very bad umbrella term. It doesn't allow use to differentiate from a slap on the ass from rape. Those two things should be treated worse than they are today, but also very differently.

It's a direct quote anon, every single attempt to defend him I have seen on the net involves being deliberately obtuse about context.

Don't be on the obtuse group just because the guy is a smart and a role model in some things. He backtracked on his soykaf quite quickly because he was aware of how bad his comment was so he definitely doesn't need you to be obtuse for his sake either.

I have no idea which articles did you read but the one on Vice was simply a lie.

What part of it was a direct quote are you failing to process

Vice:
Early in the thread, Stallman insists that the “most plausible scenario” is that Epstein’s underage victims were “entirely willing” while being trafficked.
Stallman in the emails:
We can imagine many scenarios, but the most plausible scenario is that she presented herself to him as entirely willing.
Where "him" refers to Minsky.

If you can't see the difference between claiming that she was "entirely willing" and that she was coerced by Epstein into presenting herself to Minsky as if she was "entirely willing", I can only recommend repeating primary school.

This.
If he had retired normally, it would be another story. This will only create division.
I can't trust GNOME nor Software Freedom Conservancy anymore and I'm dubious about FSF now.

This, literally we have to put these quotes back into context otherwise because people simply will not do it by themselves. Even if they do go out an verify what he said, for some reason they have a mental override that prevents them from understanding what the words even mean. I really hate to say it, but this entire issue of misunderstanding and witch hunting seems to stem from the LGBTQ community.
