New album is out:

Honestly, I don't relate much to the lyrics but in terms with the sound, I can agree on this. I've also seen the guy live. It's definitely worth to check out if you're into ATR, Machine Girl and all the like. Also, feel free to discuss similar artists ITT.

Oh fuck yes how long I have been waiting for this!

Cool, I liked the other album and the zine that came with it. I can't wait to hear it.

Recently I found a video on YT:
about CICADA 3031. Well, I heard about this organisation before, but this vid describes phenomen widely with some speculation. Maybe you have some other thoughts or know other mystery/occult stories from web in general. Feel free to share your thoughts, Alice.

In 2012 when it was the more active, me a couple of other people though is that Cicada is probably an organization for or from journalist. They hold similar value as Julian Assange for example and what one of the winner said about the organization of the project seems pointing in that direction.
Cicada do not want to publish privacy related to software for the people but for organization that hold power against the state in a democracy.

The only thing they did for the people is spread awareness of crypto tool to people with their game. So in that regard i don't know if i support them or not.

For all things exploration in the underground, the forbidden, inaccessible, and abandoned. We do not break in, we don't leave a trace, and we don't get caught.

>What is Urban Exploration?

Urban exploration is the exploration of man-made structures, usually abandoned ruins or not usually seen components of the man-made environment.

>How can I get started?

Start by protecting yourself legally and physically. Learn the laws in your area about abandoned places and your right of taking records such as videos and photos. You also need the get gear to protect yourself during your ventures. Wearing clothing that protects all skin, sturdy boots, and accessories that protects you.

>Where are some places in my area?

It's best to do research to find unexplored places, but to explore some known places, use UE's location database of known places to explore:

yea. I picked up a really powerful, 18659 led light with different light modes(lo, brite) and and rotating bulb that changes the shape of the light. its pretty nice and modular and has a usb charger.

I deally though, I would like to have all of that packaged into a dual 18650 usb charger, with red, green, blue, and white. the different colors are incredibly useful:
the bright white led can be used to blind potentially dangerous individuals.
the red is obviously good for covert operations(like in the movie kid cannabis)
the blue is actually pretty useful for writing on paper at night and the green is just for fun.
oh yeah, it would have to be waterproof.
I also wanted to ask this board what they think of badges and stickers on your laptop. to me, its kind of bad because it be revealing of what kind of person you are and they might think you are malicious.
also, it could be used to influence people to protect themselves online and advocate for constitutional freedoms etc.

Wait, so you explore the city alone?

I always try to convince my friends to do urban exploration, but I guess they like routine, "you are crazy", they prefer to go to the movie theater every month and play video games, I don't go with them anymore to watch movies, I am sick of always doing the same thing over and over again.

Anyway, I decided I will start to explore and do psycho-geography alone.

Give me some general tips, please.

like there are a lot of small tips that you learn from reading.
some major ones would be:
security camera awareness
wearing hats
pretty much always bringing your phone as a social engineer tool
flashlight for night excursions
leave things the way you found them.
if you want to know how frequently people visit an area, leave a quarter on the ground
try to be covert and undetected but not suspicious, sometimes you can just seem like you belong there
take pictures
idk, there are others

Will definitely give this a read, thanks

Do you know any books similar to The Little Schemer and the other "Little" books? Similar in format, with the questions and answers structure. The topic can be anything, it doesn't have to be about programming.
1 post omitted. Click reply to view.

There's also "A Little Java, a Few Patterns" by them, which is a rather refreshing look at Java.

The Haskell book by Chris Allen is very conversational like that, but not to the extreme that the little schemer books take it to. I would highly recommend Seasoned and Reasoned Schemer if you are interested in that kind of thing.

Also Essentials of programming languages by the same author does a similar project- as you go structure to teach programming language design/fundamentals. It is basically like little schemer but the projects in each chapter that he walks you through are designing toy interpreters with different types of features in each chapter. By the end of it you have designed a bunch of different language constrcutrs in scheme.

I'll check the Haskell book out, thanks. I've read the other "little books" and EoPL also, but I'm not looking for good programming books, but books that follow the format of The Little Schemer.

You mean like literally the alternating page stucture itself? huh that is a weird request. The Raymond Smullyan logic/combinatorics puzzle books all follow a similar format conversationally with little problems that inch upwards, but the answers and explanations are deferred to the end of each chapter. But is has a similar tone. To Mock a Mockingbird is the one I would recommend, it is about SKI combinator calculus stuff but with a interesting bird analogy.

The Little series is honestly doing a very unique thing pedagogically, I would be surprised to see many reocmmendations of similar things.

It doesn't have to be the exact same layout, I just like the question-answer format. For example here is a book that is similar, but uses a "choose your own adventure" format instead:

Every now and then I hear it wondered,
"Why do moths fly into lights?"
It's because they find their way
by gazing at the Moon,
Heaven's most reflective body
waxing ever bright—

Until we came along, that is
Reinventing to our tastes
the night
Navigating by our silver orbs
To destinations never closer
Or so it seems until
A dusty wing collides with
the fallen sky: a pane of glass
the moth will never see nor fathom.

Every now and then I hear it promised,
"Shoot the Moon; and if you miss
Still, you'll land among the stars"
—I have to disagree.
My landing was in city streets
Lined with twinkling light

I look up towards the Moon
But closer skies are all I sight
Blind by towering glass and Earthly stars
I can but reflect
On what my destination might be like.

Your poetry. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece; it just has to be sincere.

Years and years ago, she said:
"Who are you?
Who are you?
Who are you?"
But the "you" she sought was dead;

Then she kissed me, and she said,
"I love you.
I love you.
I love you."
So I lived for her instead.

When she left, heard in my head,
"I miss you.
I miss you.
I miss you."
And I ran my razor red,
I cried, cried, all while I bled,
Too late for my written flesh:
Living, never again dead.

above the grayblack wastes.
A tree-
high thought
grasps the light-tone: there are
still songs to sing beyond

You wake up from the electricity.

Your mind has been racing all night but somehow you slept, you guess.

You solve the problem in your dreams.

When you wake it is just your train of thought
switching tracks.

Picking up the canisters of caffeine for the day, you look at the cashier and wonder

People talk of work like work isn't identity, isn't fulfillment. Her eyes mirror the sentiment.

Maybe you are weird. You pay and leave.

Walking in, you wonder:

Maybe you're lucky.

Maybe the dream job is just beyond "I tried, but you know how it is."

You return home at the end of the day, a sum of problems of your own.

But as you fall into your chair, you feel a peace.

When you hear how someone didn't make it, all you hear is "I stopped at…."

And you dwell on that stage.

Success follows insanity.

Hey guys just a quick question i thought you might know this
Why are bombers cyberpunk? Why are they used in that aesthetic, especially on girls. I'm looking on some movies that were made like 10 years before ghost in the shell anime, and there already a girl cyborg is wearing a bomber jacket.

Can you explain? Where does it stem from? Was it natural flow, or did some protocyberpunk movie have bomber jacket on a character? Like I said, it has to be before like 1986 at least, because even B movie of cyberpunk category have bombers

Also, bomber jacket pockets are not even that practical to be honest. The outer ones at least. Inner ones also, you will drop things from there all the times.

personally i prefere softshell jackets like pic related. great advantages for all seasons except summer, indestructible, dry, warm but not hot, won't make you stick out in public.

/pol/ slang meshes surprisingly well with cyberpunk poser slang.
> I wish these boomer shazbots would quit putting chems in my soycaf, man

That Anon is right, though.

It was sort of like that here too. Not so many bomber jackets, a few, but definitely lots of military surplus. I'll never wear those crappy surplus combat boots again though. The day I switched to something else my lower back problems vanished. 17 was pretty young to have back problems!

Honestly, I think bomber jackets fit into any genre that takes place after the bomber jacket was invented. You can put it in post apocalyptic stuff, plain contemporary stories, dieselpunk, cyberpunk, biopunk, military sci-fi, etc. The bomber jacket's rule of cool transcends genres.

Someone here please recommend me a cyber punk book to read that I will actually finish.
I need to get away from the city and the political garbage for a while.
I will be cross referencing this: and this:

I want a really cool book that is preferably long and NOT ender's game(hated it)
something that is closer to leo tolstoy or dostoevsky but not quite the fast pace of TRON

I know this is vague. I like a big city that you can escape into the shadows for a while like the slums of japan (kind of like tokyo drift)

it doesn't have to be particularly tech savvy or scientifically correct or captivating, but defininetly has to have the chill and mistique of K's apartment, but without the class warfare.

ok, thats it. get to work!

mod edit: the links are legit

I have only yet begun to break into this book from Murakami (though I am familiar with another of his titles "kafka on the shore") that title cam to my attention after having received much praise on another literature chan/board
though I am 4 chapters in, I will be taking it slow. it is very captivating however I am interested in multiple projects at the moment

unironically the expanse series, OP.

I it's basically a cyberpunk space opera, I was pleasantly surprised and read the whole series in like two weeks.

Did you watch the latest episode of Kino no Tabi? It was set in the land of the Arabs and was a commentary on natural rights versus female genital mutilation.

I think you're reading too much into it.

opinion utterly disqualified

What difference does it make that it was streamed on Crunchyroll? Is this like when people complain about tumblr filenames?

File: 1526679828107.jpg (167.6 KB, 1079x498, Smite-Achilles-UGP-PCLaunc….jpg)

my issue with crunchyroll is the Flash requirements. but im not that other alice that mentioned crunchyroll

> remake
Did you watch the original? Did you read the books? How can you eat such hot garbage which the remake undoubtedly is?

Also the original celebrates 15 years this year. It's a nice time to rewatch it and give it appreciation it deserves.
