It's strange seeing this hasn't been knocked out the bounty. Lets give thoughts, questions, critiques, and rants a chance! We are in this board together, so what made the show so good to you? As long as it relates to the show directly (Including behind the scene stuff, cosplays, games, etc) post it here.

1699 here. The answer to all three of those questions is undoubtedly "yes"

 No.1787

I'm probably going to have to re-watch it to see what I missed out on. Can somebody here explain what lain actually is? what i got from it was that she was a product of the wired that somehow managed to be a god.

 No.1798

>>1787
Humanity's collective unconsciousness crossed with the wired when it was created. Eiri took a bit of it that was in the wired and gave it sentience in a 14 year old girl's body.

Or she's a program created through Schumann experimentation inside Protocol 7, but that's the boring answer that doesn't account for some of the things said in the show.

 No.1799

Suggestion to move this thread to her dedicated board.

Does anyone have the original french version of this interview ? I can't find it.
http://www.konaka.com/alice6/lain/hkint_e.html

The english translation has a lot of grammar mistakes and that makes it a bit hard to understand properly, so I'd like to re-translate it.

I have recently finished things such as Land of the Lustrous and the Nier and those two things became easily among my favorite in their respective mediums. Upon finishing them it made me wonder how else to find new media to enjoy and become a fan of when I dont know where to look and how you guys find things to enjoy and become fans of yourselves. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

If you really feel like digging, try looking at pastebin and github for some [curated] lists. I'm pretty sure you could find some nice gold nuggets. g luck

 No.1715

look at the other things done by the people who made things you like, and find people who like what you like and see what else they like.
I'll use land of the lustrous as an example too, I looked it up on youtube and found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q44wp2_UlE4
then looked through some of this guys other videos and saw he did one on made in abyss and konosuba which I also like, so I know if he recommends something (like gantz O) it's worth checking out.

 No.1717

Some of my favourite things I got into completely at random; I've downloaded music because I liked the band's name or album art and the music stuck with me for years. I've looked for a particular song and found an unrelated one with the same nane by a different artist, that sort of thing.

 No.1718

youtube music reccomendations.
look into movies in the background of YTMVs.

I misread that as in NieA Under 7, and I thought to myself, hey, that's on my watchlist, it's associated with the character designer from Lain.

Honestly, I really just look at lists of anime, in particular the "recommend" section on MAL at the bottom of anime I already like, or the favourites on the user profile of someone who rated an anime I like highly. Sometimes things really stand out to you, and you know you're going to love them just from the name and cover, that's how I felt about Haibane Renmei and Windy Tales. If it looks good it's probably good and if it looks really good it's probably really good. Sometimes things are a bit disappointing, but it's hard to find something you aren't glad you watched.

Hey Alice,
We should do an arisuchan.jp community cover of Duvet, I think that would sound nice.
Here's a link to a piano version if you can read notes

Hello Lains, I began commissioning a translation of Visual Experiments Lain, but for various reasons I basically ran out of money to spare and couldn't finish it (also I think they were ripping me off, but I'm not really sure). I was going to typeset it myself to save money, but I didn't get around to that either. So I only have about 20 .psd files with the English on top of the original unedited pictures. Figured it would be better to release it than to do nothing. Let me know if you need the rest of the untranslated pages if you want to finish it yourself.

Anyone else read any of Kazuma Kamachis works?

Some very innovative scifi elements as well as witty batter over all fun story's.

I've read the zashiki warashi of intellectual village; which I think is somewhat over looked because it hasn't had a anime adaption I'm just getting started on both of the "a certain" series although I've already seen the anime adaptations.

Anyway getting back to the original question anyone else on read any of his works?

Tokyo manki revengers is pretty good. It's basically about a guy who has a crush on a girl who dies from gang violence. He gets sent back in time and has to join a gang in order to save his waifu. It's good so far.

I can understand you Alice, I've started to prefer Manga to Anime after a while too.

I would recommend everything from Inio Asano to you, his work is amazing and deeply touching.
I assume you are interested in Cyberpunkish stuff, you should give Planetes and Akira a try.

If you're looking for something to cheer you up I would recommend Shinrayku! Ika Musume and Ansatsu Kyousoykafsu.

Someothers that I like are Watamote, Aku no Hana and the NHK manga.

Sounds exactly like my friend. As for myself I just feel that anime is a more richer format than manga, animation coupled with music makes for a more enjoyable experience than just looking at pictures.

Recently me and some friends discussed our love for arcades in japan, we came up with ideas for a clothing style that we decided to call Cabinetpunk. I made up this album of images as a starting point. Any discussion or suitable images would be nice to see.
