Why is it that you need referers enabled to post on a Vichan board, except on Lainchan.jp? My users are having this problem on my site but not here, with certain browsers such as Icecat which apparently by default don't send them. I can't find a relevant setting in the Vichan config or the js plugins. Is it a custom modification?

Thats funny, I always get that error here.

 No.763

>>761
Must just be them then.

 No.765

it is a bug that was long since fixed in the lainchan fork of vichan.

 No.766

I think it's
$config['referer_match']
.

Sorry if this has already been answered before somewhere, but is there any purpose to all the non-listed boards? Why keep all of them hidden entirely except from /all/? I understand that listing them all on the top bar would clutter the screen and also would theoretically divide the community further, but at the same time, why have all of them completely unlisted?

 No.756

Some are just playful (e.g., /lindsay/ and /tay/) while others are have explicit content (e.g., /trap/). The navbar is for discussion boards only.

There was a bug with the JavaScript on the ukko page. We have disabled it for now until we can look into it.

Many of us endearingly refer to each other as 'lains' and I was recently explaining this phenomenon to a friend and they of course asked me, "what does it mean to be a lain?" I didn't have an answer; it is a difficult question. Now that I think about it more I don't think it merely means you are a user of lainchan or even a member of the community. I think to be a lain one must have both a fierce intellectual curiosity and passionate interest in technology. Nevertheless I'm sure many others have a much different view. So what makes a lain a lain, lain?

don't say that, cherished lain comrade, if you are here, something has brought you and something has made you stay.

the fact that the other posters didnt describe you doesnt mean you don't belong, rather that so far an inaccurate, or perhaps incomplete picture has been painted.

please, enlighten us! critique us! make us see our blindness and learn from our mistakes and misconceptions.

Maybe you should help us expand upon the definition of what it means to be a lain then. You are most definitely welcome here, lain. ^_^

>the wired is a spiritual place, and deeply involved in the future of our evolution as a culture, as an animal. the wired is not simply another part of this world, it is the next.
I guess I'm not a lain then. I'm just saying so because I take a very pessimistic view of the vast majority of telecom. Most telecom is centralized and in the tight grip of the Ones On Top. To even envision a telecom system I would want to partake in, I would have to imagine that meshnets actually become a thing, or else I abandon internet-type things entirely and communicate on pirate shortwave bands.
I am comfortable, even happy with the concept of a world where I never have to touch the Wired again.
(Damn, am I just a terrible fit for this site? And I felt so happy on it, too…)

 No.710

Well.

I feel like I agree with both >>709 and >>696 .

The net is important, I hate it, I find it fascinating, beautiful and interesting and full of potential, but also just plain messed up. A more democratic model, as with a well built meshnet, is something I often dream of. Improbable? sure, but its a dream.

>would I ever leave the internet for good?

hell yes I would, if I could live and do my work without it.

I don't think anyone in this thread is trying to make anyone feel that they don't "belong" here, maybe I am wrong but the goal I see is more to understand the community as it exists, rather than to perscribe the community as it should be.

then again, maybe I don't belong here, either.

I really do think this is actually a place for you. The web as it is, how you describe it, is owned by the megacorps. Me, you, and others dislike that a lot, and I think this fits with lainchan quite well.

Thank you.

What is the drama going on?! Now every link on lainchan.org to different boards has been redirected here. I'm still in the middle of my writing and this site suddenly shows on my screen? What the heck?

I have already heard that some mods/admins wanted to fork Lainchan days before and have noticed this domain, that's ok and fine if you eventually think it is necessary…But better communication! Not a sudden military coup d'état style of forking, okay? I don't want to see another FFmpeg vs. LibAV-like soykaf okay?

Yes. I'm sure he's been plotting this for the last six months. See >>630

He probably wasn't plotting it but this is the result.
Kalyx got his $5000 plus gets to admin another site with a stolen name too. Lucky him.

I'm hardly lucky. I hardly have time to use .jp let alone administrate it.

This is how it happened. I couldn't visit Nildicit's house without going on a depressing nostalgia train about how Lainchan used to be good. Since I am good friends with most all of the staff of .org, I have been well aware of how they feel. Quite a few of them just stopped trying.

Hi all. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the work the moderation team put into this website and community. Atleast one lain thinks you guys are doing a bang-up job and is grateful for the time and effort put into maintaining this community. Lainchan is one of the last corners of the internet that I can call home; really thanks.

Here's one of my favorite lains as a present from me to the moderation team.
