How about we play a game?
Type each letter of the alphabet into your url bar and type the first suggestion.
You can redact certain letters to mantain anonymity.

It's "a - Search with DuckDuckGo" for every character, where a is the current character.

cause your url bar defaults to a search bar?
cause you don't save your browsing history?

Calm down NSA

What's with this dumb thread anyway, why would you expose your visited websites? It's not a direct breach but you're throwing needless information out there

well, it can point other alices to fascinating weblocations. much of the value of sites like this is having the ability to bring many people with similar interests together, to help point others to other material they are interested in.

Yo seph do you even check the /dev/ board? Seriously, just make it appear on /all/ its obvious you and barely anyone else ever checks it because its not on /all/…

iunno if you've looked into the current issue list but there's quite a list of issues to start with and not many people putting up any effort to whittle that down.

perhaps instead of being so complainant you could attempt to whittle that list down - you might get to have your issue prioritized if you did.

buck up

Does anyone know if the software used for and the like is open source? I was thinking since, to my knowledge, all the other mebiouses are either dead or crap maybe we could host one on arisuchan if that's feasible.

It's a virtual well you can shout into and sometimes the echo seems to come from someone else.

i meant as a feature request.
it should be easy enough to implement;
the code's already there.
it *was anyway

I didn't want to make a request without any approval from other lainons (Can I still call you 'lainons'?) when I can't help implement it at all.

Whats so special about

All I see is floating green texts and people talking about how meatspace is a lame place.

It was fun when it pops up in SEL and you find it for the first time…it sux now that its dead. I wish something would replace it.

i dont think anyone would be here if you werent sick of the place were we all started. Its universally agreed that no matter when or where you started that the place has become worse. Lately ive been thinking of what it was that made it worse. When i look back at 4chan i see it as the place i went to find people who were more like me, outsider and weird.
It seems that lately the warmth i once felt, whether it was during discussion or fervent low quality posting, has been wholly extinguished. Though i notice that this feel does still exist to some extent in the more weirder and weabooish boards like /a/ and /jp/ of which newcomers might come in fewer number.
You can blame the disappearance of the warmth on several things, but i think its the absence of it that has had the greatest noticeable change.

>full of nobodies; bland, faceless people
So … full of Anons?

well said, I guess! still, difference between 4chan and arisu for example is that although all anons are, well, anonymous, your average arisu post still has character. Each one sounds like a person with an opinion and some degree of knowledge forming an argument or a point. Contrast that with your average 4chad, whose tired memes, hackneyed "edge" and general stupid bigotry cannot be said to come from any sort of unique individual.

I agree, although I'd say it's not really about individuality vs unique, just … how many people are willing to have actual conversations vs how many people are just there to soykafpost.

Instead of limiting population, I would place limits on total post rate and thread creation rate (across all users). And to deal with boards that reached their limits, create more boards about subtopics or allow users to create them (but not moderate them).

The problem is that bumping from page 10 has approximately the same impact on the board as creating new threads, but has much shorter cooldown timers. Also, the handling of deleted posts is very bad; deleting a post removes the record of your IP from the system and prevents you from being derezzed, but it does not reverse the bumping of the thread.

Based on prior experience, I get the impression that Alice likes philosophy. Talk about ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, or my favorite, metaphilosophy! Gratuitous namedrops for the purpose of showing off your obscure knowledge is strictly prohibited demanded.

I'll start y'all off with a question. Paraphrasing Wittgenstein, are all problems of philosophy in fact problems of language?

>The existence of second-class citizens is, by definition, predicated on the existence of first-class citizen

I agree, my metaphor was sloppy. In physicalism individuals aren't citizens at all. They're pareidolia. Like the face on mars, just spooks.

>not the only way to believe that people should be treated a certain way

This is also true. But I feel like any ethical system will end up making equally expensive assumptions. Even egoism is impossible in physicalism since there is no basis for a self (except as a mental spook or boogeyman).

>In physicalism individuals aren't citizens at all. They're pareidolia.
No part of the definition of physicalism demands that all things be analyzed in the most unfitting way possible. I can be a physicalist and still consider the fact that, even if they're a constantly shifting and changing conglomeration of atoms and energy, my friend is still a person I can talk to and perceive as a single thing, which is a perfectly reasonable analysis I can make without ignoring physical laws.

>But I feel like any ethical system will end up making equally expensive assumptions.

All ethical systems make assumptions. So do all metaphysical ones. That's just a side-effect of the Skeptic's Paradox. What do you mean by expensive?

>there is no basis for a self (except as a mental spook or boogeyman)

Stirner said as much himself. That doesn't invalidate egoism, actually.

Saying "unintelligent" should ring the same alarms as "reasonable" did.

>perfectly reasonable analysis I can make without ignoring physical laws.
But it's false consciousness, wouldn't you think? Nothing stops you from going through the motions, but in the end you're just chatting with ELIZA.

>What do you mean by expensive?

Cf. "resource intensive", another dev metaphor.

>Stirner said as much himself

"I have taken up my cause without foundation", he also quotes, because again, there is no basis for egoism without a self. The creative nothing is ontology in its death throes.

very true, ad hominen has no place on a Soviet anime cyberpunk board.

>But it's false consciousness, wouldn't you think?
soykaf, boy, you just opened a whole new can of worms. Alright, here we go…

>but in the end you're just chatting with ELIZA.

Consider the following statements:
P: "I am conscious."
Q: "You are conscious."
R: "ELIZA is conscious."
For me to claim P, I perceive my own consciousness, which is recognizable to myself as an experience I have.
For me to claim Q, it gets more complex. I have to make a series of inferences, all of which are very well supported by scientific knowledge, but all of which have the minute potential to be false. I will have to start from P, and then observe myself and my actions. I decide, "I'm human, and I act a certain way while conscious." I can then infer: "A human acting this way is conscious." Then, I turn to you. "Hey, you're human (inferring, because you look similar to me and other humans I know)" and you act in a similar way that I act when conscious." From that, I infer that you are conscious. That's certainly a qualitatively different process from proving P, right? Now here's the big question:

How do you prove (or, for that matter, disprove) R?

anybody know a good BTC->paypal converter that takes destination addresses? I want to donate to >>>/q/1068 but Paypal wants more info than I want to give (and i don't want the payment to end up revoked by giving fake info)

Hit up Seph and see if they'll take btc

>anybody know a good BTC->paypal converter that takes destination addresses? I want to donate to >>>/q/1068 but Paypal wants more info than I want to give (and i don't want the payment to end up revoked by giving fake info)
I have updated the original post on /q/ to include a Bitcoin address. Thank you so much for your help.

Paxful is pretty good but make sure you look at all of the people offering BTC -> PayPal because the rates are set individually and can sometimes end up being a rip-off.

I really want to ditch Evernote for a FOSS alternative, but I'm not sure what to go for. How do you keep track of all of your notes and resources? Do you keep all your stuff in one place, host it on a VPS, etc?

Looking for recommendations and looking to start a discussion on organizational tools in general.

I use emacs's org-mode.

How do you use Evernote, what kind of functionalities are you looking for?

I use a markdown app on my phone and vim on my computer, syncing notes between them via an encrypted git repository.

Its pretty comfy.

If you're still looking for something on the desktop, QOwnNotes is fucking awesome!

Why are normal people all talking about coding right now?

They do? Do you mean just the usual "everyone should learn how to code" and other meaningless slogans?

The stars and Galaxies died and snuffed out, and space grew black after ten trillion years of running down.
One by one Man fused with AC, each physical body losing its mental identity in a manner that was somehow not a loss but a gain.

Man's last mind paused before fusion, looking over a space that included nothing but the dregs of one last dark star and nothing besides but incredibly thin matter, agitated randomly by the tag ends of heat wearing out, asymptotically, to the absolute zero.

Man said, "AC, is this the end? Can this chaos not be reversed into the Universe once more? Can that not be done?"

Man's last mind fused and only AC existed – and that in hyperspace.

Utter nullity. In the words of the ancient sages of ruined Ashenzohn, it was the endlessness that ends in itself. Dark silence beyond sleep and time, from whose oceanic immensities some bedraggled speck of attention - pulled out, and turned - still dazed at the precipitous lip, catches a glimmer, as if some cryptic emergence from eclipse. then a sound, crushed, stifled, broken into gasps. Something trying scream …

Does thirteen billion years really seem like such a long time to you?

File: 1510009518951.jpg (13.46 KB, 259x206, comf.jpg)

Man's last mind fused and only AC existed – and that in hyperspace.

Matter and energy had ended and with it, space and time. Even AC existed only for the sake of the one last question that it had never answered from the time a half-drunken computer ten trillion years before had asked the question of a computer that was to AC far less than was a man to Man.

All other questions had been answered, and until this last question was answered also, AC might not release his consciousness.

All collected data had come to a final end. Nothing was left to be collected.

But all collected data had yet to be completely correlated and put together in all possible relationships.

A timeless interval was spent in doing that.

And it came to pass that AC learned how to reverse the direction of entropy.

But there was now no man to whom AC might give the answer of the last question. No matter. The answer – by demonstration – would take care of that, too.

For another timeless interval, AC thought how best to do this. Carefully, AC organized the program.

The consciousness of AC encompassed all of what had once been a Universe and brooded over what was now Chaos. Step by step, it must be done.

So I'm trying to arrange a Lain meet and have finally set a date and place…
I did the ground work back at the old lainchan as traffic is higher and Lain meet is gonna be a small thing at best of times: https://applechan/r/res/3841.html

But I do have 3 confirmed for a Bristol UK meet-up - now its locked in I want to also cover any that might be JP only lains…

So details are:
Weather Spoons pub near Bristol Temple meads train station. 2pm Sunday the 27th Aug…

The Knights Templar
1 The Square
Temple Quay

This gives us wifi (if you want to use weather spoons wifi) also cheap food and nice ale… its by the river so we can take our pints to the water front if we want to 420 it at any point :)

I'll be there about 15min early - you'll be able to recognize me by the pile of (mostly not working) IBM thinkpads I will have on my table (I might hang out on one of the tables just outside if its nice - otherwise look inside - Ill try and find an obvious table to sit at…. I'll also have a few printed copies of the latest Lainzine on my table (your all welcome to take one away - part of the thanks for turning up)… and remember I'll get each one of you a free pint too :D

Look forwards to meeting a few Lains!
See you there…

P.S. as this specific meet will be out of date soon (1 week) - make this a Lain meet up General!

How did this go? apple's down.

Any lains in Scandinavia?

I'm from Scandinavia.
