Love is the heroin of emotions. Once your one it it's hard to stop, We are obsessed with it mainly because we see a lot of movies and other media that focus on love and other places without access to our mass media still focus on it because of stories they hear and legends. It's basically a memetic virus that infects a poet or whatever and he writes about his experiences, Then other people want to experience love and when they get hooked they start telling their friends about it and It starts to spread like wildfire.

we get a lot of problems from relationships, but it also deserves to be noted that we gain a lot of value from them.
even if we do not care about having children, or other things like that, for the most part, in human society socialization is neccisary. You don't forage through the woods, or run a substantial farm, or you hammer at a keyboard, or whatever else it is you do, and use that to earn money, to trade with other people who probably didnt produce the food you're buying , but have it anyway because of their relationships to other people.
in those places where one needs to worry about malaria, or hunger, or whatever, the same holds true. you're not going to somehow become resistant to malaria by sheer force of will. you're going to deal with it by getting the tools to do so from other people. and it pays to have positive relationships with people in order to do that.
essentially, ends, like food, 'satisfaction of biological urges', medication, et cetera, are ends. relationships human are often the means to those ends.

We like attractive things. Now society has become urbanized, we see attractive people everyday. Fashion has turned loose with yoga pants and short shorts.
We see pornography with the most mindblowingly erotic content possible. Everything you could want, you can find on the internet.
There's also the societal pressures. When your friends and siblings have lovers and you don't, it reflects poorly on your ability to socially interact and find someone willing to be partners with you.
That about covers it, I think.
