first off, there's a thread on /z/ (here) about this issue, you might wanna go over there and check it out. Talking about mostly smallbuisness and selfemployment stuff.
I'll be honest, I dont really give a soykaf about whether something I'm doing is /cyb/ enough, or cyb at all, nor am I sure thats productive. /Cyb/ media tend to focus on, as many things do, people in weird or abnormal situations, thats what makes it interesting. Not everyone's going to be a private investigator, and frankly not every private investigator is going to do much interesting.
Personally, the more I work with computers the less I like the taste they leave me with. Currently my wage-slavery centres around basic computer work, nothing special, just some coding here and there. It works, gets me money, but fuck I want out of this field.
Seriously, do what you want, what you enjoy. Some people I know care strongly about quantified earnings in a grand dick-measuring competition, if thats your thing thats your thing but to me, I'd like to do what I enjoy. Maybe what feels like its contributing to making a better world, sure as hell not what feels like trudging the opposite way.
Such things matter much more than /cyb/-iness. If its a cyberpunk world, its a cyberpunk world. Doesnt much change the cares and concerns of those on the ground.

>>3965>Seriously, do what you want, what you enjoy. Some people I know care strongly about quantified earnings in a grand dick-measuring competition, if thats your thing thats your thing but to me, I'd like to do what I enjoy. Maybe what feels like its contributing to making a better world, sure as hell not what feels like trudging the opposite way. Ever heard of the "hedonic treadmill"? Basically we've evolved to never stay satisfied with anything for long. People like to soykaf on greedy corporations and executives for wanting infinite growth and having an unending appetite for profit, but it's built into as humans to be that way.
It probably served us well as a species in the past, but for those of us in first world countries who don't really need to worry too much about food, water, and shelter, it's kind of become maladaptive. Even if you aren't some top 1%er executive, we've all probably had times where we thought "if I can just get this one thing I'll be happy", whether that thing is moving to some city, getting some job, acquiring a certain amount of money, or even getting a certain spouse.
To anyone reading this, if you want my unsolicited advice on happiness, I'd say keep your goals loose and don't stay too laser focused on any one thing. Life isn't a movie where the credits roll after you achieve the goal you've worked towards. I can't think of anything sadder than getting everything you've ever wanted and realizing you're still miserable.

>>3967This is so true. After thinking about things for la long time, I realized that I am not passionate enough to dedicate my life to one thing. I currently have a plethora of things I want to achieve, like music production, writing novels, creating games, doing some research and start several businesses. I just have to find a way of achieving them. I know some people that just love doing one thing and one thing only, they make me jealous.

Also, a point to realize: there is more to life than how you get money. Dont make your goals career oriented if they're not.

>>3966>buy tech from homeless people, fix it up, sell it on craigslistUnironically i knew someone who made a decent portion of fmthere income doing this. Homeless people are often unaware of the value of there electronics or limited in places they can sell them.

People are starting to forget how to repair thing that how our culture is evolving less reparation more purchase. It will become a important skill in the coming years.

>>4058>unless you do this dozen and dozen of time per week. I don't see how you can make a decent living out of it.This person probably got about 8% of their income from this activity. It doesn't scale. Its unethical and probably carries legal risk. The margin is extremely high. IMO not worth the associated headache.
>>4064>They're often in a big hurry to get the money and buy their next fix as well. Addictions can be an ugly thing.Entirely possible. But cash strappped people are often in a hurry to get income and often make poor deals for it. Cf pay day lenders.
