I'd like to think that there's some sort of leviathan down there in the depths - something so massive and awe-inspiring that it would blow our minds - but I'm a realistic anon, and in my experience the world tends to be too boring for that to ever happen

All of this remind me the film " The big blue " from Luc Besson, and the possible paradize of the deep blue maybe the same thing that major Kusanagi in ghost in thé shell is searching in the see .

There's water. soykaftons of water. And if you thought that's much, there's also stone. Way more than water.

People are always obsessed over large things lurking in the deep sea, but I'd be much more afraid of very very small things that we haven't uncovered. What if there is some crazy killer virus that is locked into the bottom of the ocean dormant. Or some other small organism that is remaining on the sea floor in a few remote areas that if brought to the surface could harbor some ancient disease for which there would be no cure.

All that laying in wait for some scientist to dredge up unknowingly. It could be being dredged up right now.

Giant squid exist and use the only option to get big (e.g. being a boneless blob) in the deep that we know.
There is barely anything to eat in the deep, a giant would have to feed from some underwater source that is again not known to us, which is pretty unlkely because we know a lot about earth's geology.

Well, corporations is a better choice because they are much more numerous and less careful to potential damage.
That is a better scenario but lokking at the bottomless pit of the sea sure makes me thing of unholy creatures with villainous intentions.
