I still don't trust this company. When they first started their original kickstarter they espoused security and safety, making claims about FOSS BIOS etc. without realizing the vulnerabilities in their platform like IME as well as inherent aspects to the x86 architecture and associated intel chipsets. Sure, they have made steps to work on that now, but honestly they where not very transparent about the faults when they fist started their project and they hooked in a lot of normal people who didn't really understand the issues with the platform they chose.

Google Chromium is "open source" but it phones home. Ubuntu is "open source" but it shows you ads in server bash prompt and sends your local search history to Amazon. Debian is "free software" but it gently asks you upon installation whether you want to participate in their data-mining program. Mozilla collects service information and feeds lists of websites you visit to Google. it is known and they are not hiding it in some proprietary blob. But it is annoying that a user has to make extra steps to ensure every software he uses doesn't phone home upon turning computer on.

the people in this thread are crazy. $599 is a good price for a smartphone of this caliber. I'm going to save for one and make it totally custom.
