As arisuchan's first collaborative project, we are seeking audio engineers and other volunteers from the community to participate in the creation of a fan edit of Serial Experiments Lain in which we replace all of the music with scene appropriate ambient, IDM, and glitch music including artists such as Autechre, Boards of Canada, and Aphex Twin.

Please introduce yourself here or in
#sel-remix
on Freenode if you are interested.

examples of artists we might like to feature:
Access to Arasaka, Aes Dana, Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Apparat, Arovane, Autechre, Boards of Canada, CONNECT.OHM, edIT, Helios, Jega, KiloWatts, Lone, Miyuki, Moderat, Nautilis, Ochre, Oneohtrix Point Never, Phonem, Polygon Window, Proem, Swod, Tycho, Venetian Snares

project status (2017/09/11)

We are in the process of watching through SEL and making methodical notes of the start/stop times each time music plays, whether or not there is overlapping dialogue, and documenting what is happening in the scene so we can begin to match tracks to scenes.

Autechre - Tri Repetae https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3URPAf5FKko and some AFX's Selected Ambient Works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw5AiRVqfqk would work perfectly in my opinion. You need mostly something electronic, ambient, but active enough, and above all, eerie.

Here are my top picks from these albums:

Autechre:

Very athmospheric tracks that would work well in their own scenes.

For some ambience I would also suggest Alva Noto's album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYhXa3FLdQc

Good Idea, Biosphere is a very nice choice imo.

This one works particularly well:

Throw in some Hrvatski. This bastard has some alien sounding tracks that manages to blend glitch with the most basic amen breaks, while also combining acoustic elements at the same time.

This might be a track to consider putting in. All over the place, yet dreamscapey enough to give a calming feeling in the middle of chaos.

Perhaps a track from Edith Progue's Timeline. Minimalistic IDM with supporting Piano.

And finally, my last reccomendation is System Error's Nothing album. It's an album composed of samples of… well, samplers!

>“The album is called ‘nothing’, because that’s essentially what it was derived from. We wanted to reveal the hidden voice of sampling technology and play the samplers rather than the samples. Using no input signals at all, we just sampled nothing and looked really closely at it. We used every glitch and software fault and tried to listen to what the machines had to say.”

This is one of my favorite songs from this album, and likely the most appropriate for this project

Check him out, he makes beautiful electronic music. IMO the albums Music for Code and Frozen Cortex is his best work yet. I think it would fit snugly on your mix-tape.

I'm hoping his tunes for FS2 are pretty dope

Oh damn this sounds pretty cool. I'm an engineer myself, and I have editing skills. I like this idea. Had anyone made any progress on this?

 No.784

Is this project still going?

I think Alec Empire's 'Low on Ice' and 'Hipermodern Jazz 2000.5' are perfect fits for SEL

 No.817

CIALYN also has some beautiful tracks, "Gravel Road" and "22,478.9 Khz" are great among others
